It's a tough time for everyone right now - the coronavirus pandemic has changed lives, industries, business models, consumer preferences, world trade, health, safety, and so much more.
At Stuto Foot Specialist Podiatry, we recognize the threat of home injuries that may be lurking around the house, as families are spending more time at home than ever before. Dr. Joseph Stuto suggests that we create a safe home environment to reduce the likelihood of an injury.
Here are three ways to avoid an injury while at home:
- Furniture anchoring: Make sure you secure all your furniture and appliances to the wall to prevent them from tipping over. Check if your free-standing furniture is fully stable. Items like chests of drawers, bookcases, and free-standing mirrors are usually unstable and can easily topple, causing serious injuries to anyone underneath.
- Keep the medication out of kids reach: Secure your medicines from children - make sure it comes with child-resistant packaging. But that alone does not guarantee safety, which is why it is best to keep your medicine locked up in a cabinet and out of reach from children. Keep the medicine in its original container - do not peel off the label to avoid mix-up.
- Clear the clutter: Make sure your rooms, walkways, and corridors are kept clear from toys, electrical cords, throw rugs, and loose or damaged carpets. Also, ensure that all these pathways are well lit, particularly for seniors.
Pay attention to these dangers lurking at home. Take steps now to create a safe home environment for your whole family.
